PKNU's decision to be the only university in South Korea that operates three ROTC courses - Navy ROTC since 1959, Army ROTC since 1971, offering Marine Corps ROTC course from 2023
Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced on November 18 that the university reached an agreement with the Navy through consultation on operating the ROTC course of ROKMC (Republic of Korea Marine Corps) following the Navy and Army ROTC.
Pukyong National University is the only university in South Korea that operates three ROTC courses.
Pukyong National University has been discussing the development and operation of the Marine Corps ROTC course with the Headquarters Republic of Korea Marine Corps since March, and has recently received the Navy's approval and decided to start recruiting and selecting cadets from 2022.
Accordingly, the university will make an agreement with the Marine Corps about the ROTC course in following December, and begin recruiting cadets from March next year. As of 2022, 20 students in the first and second grades will be selected for each grade, a total of 40 students will be offered the course from 2023.
Starting with the training of naval reserve officer’s training corps in 1959, and the establishment of the army reserve officer’s training corps in 1971, Pukyong National University has produced about 3,800 officers, contributing to the national defense and national development of the Republic of Korea. |
